One of the world’s most influential fashion brands is officially arriving in New Zealand.

Faradays has been created with a simple ambition: to build one of the world’s great department stores, reimagined for today.

Set within the landmark heritage building at 131 Queen Street, Faradays brings together fashion, beauty, home, technology, books, wellness, hospitality and culture under one roof. More than a place to shop, it has been designed as a destination to explore, discover and spend time.

Every detail has been considered to create an experience that feels distinctly different.

Across three levels, customers will discover an evolving collection of over 150 of the world’s most admired brands, alongside immersive brand activations, beauty treatments, exceptional dining and a year-round programme of events that ensure every visit offers something new.

For Co-Founder and Chief Executive Edward von Dadelszen, Faradays is the culmination of a long-held belief that New Zealand deserves a department store equal to those found in the world’s great cities.

“Auckland does need it. It’s such an astonishing space. It’s a once-in-a-hundred-year opportunity to deliver something on this scale.”

“With every brand we’re bringing in, we’ve been really cognisant that while we have luxury brands, we also want to be accessible.”

Rather than simply restoring the building, the team has undertaken a complete transformation.

The three-storey interior has been reconfigured around dramatic vertical voids, connected by a sculptural staircase inspired by the work of American minimalist artist Donald Judd. New circulation spaces, contemporary materials and carefully crafted interiors have been designed to encourage exploration, creating a store that reveals itself gradually as customers move through it.

Behind the scenes, every element of the customer journey has been meticulously planned. Thousands of square metres have been modelled, every brand carefully curated, and hundreds of thousands of products selected to create a collection that feels both globally aspirational and genuinely relevant to New Zealand.

As Edward explains:

“With every brand we’re bringing in, we’ve been really cognisant that while we have luxury brands, we also want to be accessible.”

That philosophy extends throughout the entire store.

The lower ground floor celebrates contemporary culture, bringing together sneakers, denim, books, gifting, wellness and beauty experiences. The ground floor introduces contemporary fashion, fragrance, beauty and childrenswear, while the upper level is home to luxury fashion, destination dining and private event spaces.

While each floor has its own personality, together they form a connected experience where fashion, design, hospitality and culture naturally intersect.

Faradays has been created for those who love discovering something unexpected—whether that’s an emerging designer, a world-renowned fashion house, an unforgettable meal or an inspiring event.

“We’re certain there’s a market here. When you see what our buying team has worked on, everything feels like it goes together. That’s something you only get to experience when you’re in the space.”

This is just the beginning.

As Faradays opens its doors, customers can expect a continual programme of new brand launches, collaborations, exhibitions and experiences that will keep the store evolving throughout the year.
